I’ve Got This: The US Open’s Heartwarming Story Of Perseverance Through Adversity

If you were lucky enough to spend Father’s Day watching Gary Woodland win the US Open, you may have heard him thanking Amy for inspiring him to win. Earlier this year, Amy Bockerstette starred in a viral video with Gary at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

“Amy told me a million times when we were on that hole… I’ve got this, I’ve got this, and I told myself that a million times today, I’ve got this.”

The two met during the Special Olympics and Gary had invited Amy to go for a practice round with him. Out on the course during their practice round, she had hit her tee shot into a bunker but was unfazed and told him “I got this” and shot it back onto the green. Amy then repeated her mantra, “I got this”, and knocked it in the hole:

Amy’s positive energy and attitude kept Gary going during the PGA Tour, this time, with him being the one telling himself “I’ve got this” as Amy cheered him on from home.

This heartwarming story is one that is especially dear to Liberty. Nathan Baldry – Liberty’s founder and managing partner – has a son, Arthur, who, like Amy, was born with down syndrome. On August 26th, Liberty will be hosting the Liberty Classic Charity Golf Tournament with proceeds going to the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society and the Neurosurgery Kids Fund at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. To date, the Liberty Classic has donated $353,841.

If you’re in Edmonton and would like to play golf for a good cause, please visit www.libertyclassic.ca for more information.

And once again, congratulations to both Gary and Amy, and thank you for being an inspiration for so many of us!
